2013, our first encounter with
"The Moosbach Garden"
Our history & philosophy
Our story
From holiday dream to heart project
Sometimes a single moment is enough to steer your life in a new direction. That's what happened to us – Thomas and Andrew. During a vacation in the Black Forest, chance led us to a small, hidden hillside above Nordrach. Surrounded by forest and tranquility, with a sweeping view of the valley, we quickly realized: This is a very special place.
It was love at first sight – for this property, for the tranquility, for the landscape. But before we started designing the garden, we took our time. For an entire year, we observed the course of the sun, the play of the seasons, and the soil conditions. Because if you truly want to understand a garden, you must first listen.
A touch of England in the Black Forest
Our love of gardens—especially English gardens with all their poetry, structure, and diversity—has shaped us. Andrew, born in Yorkshire, brings with him a passion for British gardening tradition. Thomas discovered his enthusiasm for gardening during his time in Great Britain, where he worked for many years in hotel management. Together, we visited countless gardens, collected ideas, and were inspired—especially by garden designers like Gertrude Jekyll and Christopher Lloyd.
With a lot of patience, passion and a firm dream in mind, our own garden grew bit by bit: The Moosbach Garden.
A place to share
From the very beginning, we knew we didn't want to keep this place just for ourselves. The Moosbach Garden should be a place where people can relax, experience the beauty of nature, eat well, sleep well, and simply take a deep breath.
This is how our Chambre d'Hôtes was created, with four individual guest rooms, a rose garden with over 900 fragrant roses, outdoor picnic areas, and a garden that is constantly evolving.
With heart, claw and paw
By the way, we are supported by our black farm cat Bramble, who watches over everything with a critical eye – and our two Border Collies Luna and Cooperwho personally welcome each guest and provide good entertainment.
And the best thing?
Our garden is never finished – and that’s exactly what we love.
Our philosophy
Peace. Beauty. Hospitality.
At Moosbach Garden, we believe that true relaxation begins where the clocks tick slower. Our garden is intended to be a place where people can breathe deeply, unwind, and reconnect with nature—without distraction, but with all their senses.
We do everything we do with dedication: from the carefully planned perennial bed to the homemade bread at the breakfast table. Every garden path, every rose, every guest room is an expression of our conviction that beauty lies in simplicity – and that quality, authenticity, and warmth make the best hosts.
We share what we love.
Our doors are open to people who value naturalness, tranquility, and genuine encounters. We want those who come to us to feel welcome and cared for – like being with good friends who don't just show off their garden, but share it with you.
We pay attention to what matters:
- sustainabilitybecause we see the garden as a habitat for people, animals and plants.
- Regionalitybecause the Black Forest offers everything we need.
- authenticitybecause we only offer what we ourselves love and live.
The Moosbach Garden is not a place to rush.
It's a place to stay. To enjoy. To come back.
