Our History & Philosophy
Our Story
From a holiday dream to a lifelong passion
Sometimes, a single moment is enough to change the course of life.
That’s exactly what happened to us – Thomas and Andrew. During a holiday in the Black Forest, chance led us to a small, hidden hillside above Nordrach. Surrounded by forest and silence, with sweeping views across the valley, we felt it instantly:
this place is truly special.
It was love at first sight – with the landscape, the tranquility, and the charm of the property. But before we began shaping the garden, we took our time. For an entire year, we observed the path of the sun, the seasons, and the soil. Because anyone who truly wishes to understand a garden must first listen to it.
A touch of England in the Black Forest
Our love for gardens – especially English gardens with their poetry, structure, and variety – has shaped us profoundly.
Andrew, born in Yorkshire, brings a deep passion for British garden traditions. Thomas discovered his enthusiasm for gardening during his years in Great Britain, where he worked in hotel management. Together, we visited countless gardens, gathered ideas, and found inspiration – especially from great garden designers like Gertrude Jekyll and Christopher Lloyd.
With patience, dedication, and a shared dream, our own garden began to grow – piece by piece: The Moosbach Garden.
A place to share
From the beginning, we knew one thing: we didn’t want to keep this place just for ourselves.
The Moosbach Garden should be a place where people find peace, enjoy the beauty of nature, eat well, sleep deeply, and simply breathe.
That is how our Chambre d’Hôtes came to life – with four individual guest rooms, a rose garden with more than 1000 fragrant roses, outdoor picnic spots, and a garden that continues to grow and evolve.
With heart, claw, and paw
We’re also supported by our loyal companions:
Bramble, our black farm cat, who keeps a watchful eye over everything – and our two Border Collies, Luna and Cooper, who personally welcome each guest and provide plenty of entertainment along the way.
And the best part?
Our garden is never finished – and that’s exactly why we love it.
Our philosophy
Peace. Beauty. Hospitality.
At The Moosbach Garden, we believe that true relaxation begins where time slows down. Our garden is a place to breathe deeply, find stillness, and reconnect with nature – free from distractions and open to all the senses.
Everything we do is carried out with dedication: from the carefully planned perennial borders to the homemade bread on the breakfast table. Every garden path, every rose, and every guest room reflects our belief that beauty lies in simplicity – and that quality, authenticity, and warmth make the best hosts.
We share what we love.
Our doors are open to people who appreciate naturalness, tranquility, and genuine encounters.
Guests who visit us should feel welcomed and cared for – like good friends who are not only invited into the garden, but invited to truly share it.
We focus on what matters:
- Sustainability, because we see the garden as a shared habitat for people, animals, and plants.
- Regionality, because the Black Forest offers everything we need.
- Authenticity, because we offer only what we truly love and live ourselves.
The Moosbach Garden is not a place to hurry.
It is a place to stay. To savor. To return to.
